About HoplyFX
HoplyFX is a focused editorial publication dedicated to the sport of Strongman. We exist for one reason: to help athletes and enthusiasts train smarter, compete better, and avoid the costly mistakes that stall progress. This is not a generic fitness site — every article, guide, and breakdown is built around the unique demands of stones, log, axle, frame carries, and everything else that defines our sport.
Who This Site Is For
HoplyFX is written for:
- Competitive strongman athletes — from local show novices to national-level competitors who want to refine technique and programming.
- Strength coaches and trainers who work with strongman athletes and need evidence-based, sport-specific resources.
- CrossFitters and powerlifters who incorporate strongman events into their training and want to avoid common technique pitfalls.
- Long-time fans of the sport who want to understand the “why” behind training methods, event preparation, and recovery strategies.
If you’ve ever missed a loading gate because of a grip failure, or wondered why your log press stalls halfway up, you’re in the right place.
Topics We Cover
Our editorial scope is intentionally narrow and deep. Every article falls into one of these core categories:
- Event-specific technique breakdowns — atlas stones, log clean & press, axle deadlift, farmer’s walk, frame carry, sandbag loads, and more. We dissect common mistakes and show the fix.
- Training programming & periodization — how to structure blocks around a competition, manage fatigue, and peak for show day without overreaching.
- Problem–solution guides — “Why your stone stops at the lap” and “How to stop hitching on axle deadlifts” are typical of our approach.
- Recovery, nutrition & injury prevention — practical advice for bracing, hand care, low-back management, and event-specific mobility.
- Equipment & gear reviews — honest, no-fluff evaluations of loading platforms, grip aids, suits, belts, and implements.
We do not cover general bodybuilding, marathon running, or “functional fitness” unrelated to strongman. Every piece of content is written with the strongman athlete’s calendar and goals in mind.
Our Editorial Standards
Trust is the foundation of any useful publication. At HoplyFX, we follow strict editorial practices:
- Verify every claim. We do not publish anecdotal “bro-science” without cross-referencing against peer-reviewed research, coaching experience, or verified meet results.
- Update when practices change. Strongman evolves — rules change, new implements appear, and recovery science advances. Our articles are reviewed and updated at least every six months, with a clear “last updated” date on every page.
- Correct mistakes publicly. If we get something wrong, we fix it fast and note the correction. No silent edits.
- No fake expertise. We do not invent credentials. Our contributors are experienced strongman athletes and coaches who compete and coach in the sport today. We disclose relevant background without inflating résumés.
We aim to be the publication you trust enough to reference before a heavy training cycle or a contest prep.
How We Approach Problem–Solution Content
Most strongman content tells you what to do. We focus on what goes wrong and how to fix it. Every article starts with a specific problem — a technical breakdown, a plateau, a recurring injury — then walks through the root cause and the exact steps to solve it. We believe that understanding the mistake is more valuable than memorizing a routine.
